Only 1 in 12 kittens born today will find a loving, permanent home. The best way to save cats is to ensure that there are less of them so those that exist will have homes.

Are you thinking of adding a new cat to your family? Please consider visiting LAWS (Lanark Animal Welfare Society. ) Their shelter is overcrowded with cats and there is a plea for anyone looking to adopt to please come to LAWS and see their beautiful cats. They have every age, color and personality and they all want to go HOME. LAWS is very concerned because they know that their busiest time of year is fast approaching and they do need to have room for all the cats in need.
Cats are very important to us at Pampered Pups Pastries. Our 5 resident cats (all rescues but 1) are a constant reminder of the many homeless cats in our country and the wonderful rescue sanctuaries that provide them with necessities until they are placed in loving homes.

YOUR AGING CAT
- REVEL IN THE BEAUTY OF YOUR OLD CAT
Your cat may not have the sleekness of her youth but she has a dignity that comes only from years of life. Her character is set and the familiarity of your cat is very comforting for you and her. The hours of sleep increase and the years have diminished her energy but old cats still make perfect companions. The purr is louder, the meow is louder and the attention she needs has grown.
This is the time to relish your old friend who purrs in your arms. After all the years of friendship that your cat has given to you, she deserves more time, love and attention in her senior years.
Look at them and see what they are, small, wise souls who have taught us how to play again, how to pounce like a tiger and fly like a bird.
Now is the time to show your appreciation for their companionship by being aware of the changes in your cat and with the help of your veterinarian you can keep them comfortable and even live longer.
They are gentle teachers and loving friends. Hold them close now and let them know every day that you have loved sharing your life with them.

"how do cats get through these cold winter days?"
Urban Paws in Kingston almost got a surprise in their Christmas box. Our cat Sierra (nicknamed Munki) always wants to help fill orders!
Hi, my name is Shamus and I want to tell you about Me!
ONE UPON A TIME, when I was just a wee lad, my Auntie Debbie, super feline and canine cookie baker, found me walking down the middle of the street. Auntie took me to her veterinarian cause I was kinda sick.
A friend of hers met us there and adopted me on the spot. Mom said she had to adopt me cause I was really kinda ugly. She figured no one else would want me and I'd be an orphan forever. Besides, I was sickly and needed help. By and by, I had to have a food allergy test - and guess what?? I'm allergic to: wheat, corn, oats, lamb, peas and potatoes! I gotta eat special food. But, I just had my seventh birthday and I'm doin' great.
Mom said I bring her lots of joy and I'm real smart too. When company comes over and I want attention, I FLUSH THE TOILET - It's real fun cause everyone freaks out! My brothers and sisters think it's real funny!
Mom says I remind her of the story of "The Ugly Duckling" I went from being plain and ugly to one Gorgeous dude! It turns out that I am a Silver Spotted British Shorthair. Now all the little girl cats swoon over me.
THE END
Kane and the crew at Pampered Pups Pastries love cats so we dedicate this page to OUR RESIDENT CATS .
You can always find our 5 cats in the kitchen most days when their treats are baking in our ovens.
Let me introduce them -
Ginny our rescued siamese who is in her 22nd year
Maggie alias tuna-breath who is now 15
Sierra 7 years old, nicknamed Munki. Cali our rescued Calico who looks great in a hat and is now 13 Sayra another rescue who is also toothless and celebrating her 11th year
Update on Maggie Maggie update - another visit to the vet to check out her weight and once again have a B12 shot (this is around 8 times now). Her weight is holding and she is now strutting around the kitchen showing off her stuff and demanding attention from all. I really believe these B12 shots are keeping her energy levels high and helping to keep up her good appetite. We won't let Pancreatitis get us down. Keep you posted.........................
THE COMMON SENSE OF CAT CARE
PANCREATITIS Pancreatitis is an acute or chronic infection of the pancreas, a very important gland which helps to furnish digestive ferments that aid in the breakdown of foods. In the acute form, there is a high fever, abdominal pain and persistent vomiting. In the chronic form, an intermittent vomiting usually presents itself. Dietary control is an important part of the treatment. Cats cannot digest all fats so the diet should be free of any fried or greasy foods. A simple bland diet is essential. One of our cats, Maggie, is showing signs of the beginnings of this disease. Our veterinarian will now keep a close eye on her for this and today (Mar. 16/07) she was in for a checkup and a B12 shot. Her weight will be monitored very closely.
LEUKEMIA Leukemia is cancer of the blood-forming tissues. This disease is common in cats. A virus called the feline leukemia virus (FeLV) has been found to cause leukemia in cats. This virus attacks the white blood cells, causing them to multiply at a fantastic rate and to replace the normal cells and tissues. About 7.5% of positive FeLV virus tests prove to be leukemia. To be sure a cat has leukemia, a tissue biopsy or bone marrow biopsy can verify diagnosis.Eary stages are hard to detect but the later stages are anemia, weight loss, poor appetite and weakness. Secondary infections may cause coughing due to turmors and fluid accumulation in its chest. Any cat showing vague and chronic recurrent illnesses should have a blood test for FeLV virus. The means of transmission of this virus is not definitely known. It was thought to be transmitted genetically from parent cat to offspring, or be transmitted primarily by contact between infected and non-infected cats. There is now definite evidence which proves that the virus is shed in saliva and urine.Leukemia is a fatal disease. Treatment will prolong the cat's life but will not be curative. It is best to have your cat immunized for this disease.
